Called the best Bengali commercial film in a decade - just brace for a genuinely confusing first half to get there.
Story
A string of daring robberies shocks 1960s Kolkata, all linked to a mysterious man called Ananta. Once a freedom fighter in the ranks of Master-da Surya Sen, he now wages his own war against corruption. A revolutionary turned dacoit, but why? As police chase him through the city, the story, inspired by real events, reveals the painful cost of a revolution that failed most of its heroes.
What works
- The lead's multi-look prosthetic transformation and performance are widely praised as career-best
- Called the best Bengali commercial film in a decade by multiple reviewers
- Standout action, especially the train heist and rooftop chase sequences
- A well-balanced screenplay mixing action, comedy, and courtroom drama
What doesn't
- A flat, unconvincing early heist scene
- Disjointed, hard-to-follow flashback structure in the first half
- The anticipated villain face-off never fully pays off
- Background score is uneven; one dissenting reviewer disputes the film's VFX and performances entirely
What each reviewer said
- Avro Unplugged (Bengali) — Good Watch, 7.5/10
“Praises the lead's multi-look prosthetic transformation and a genuinely emotional second half, alongside strong action and production design, though it flags a flat, unconvincing early heist scene and some distracting AI-assisted VFX. Bottom line: A strong comeback vehicle let down only by an uneven background score.” Watch the review on YouTube - RUPAM'S REVIEW (Bengali) — Good Watch, 7/10
“Praises the lead's performance and camerawork but criticizes a disjointed, hard-to-follow flashback structure in the first half and a much-anticipated villain face-off that never really pays off. Bottom line: A flawed but genuinely enjoyable and emotional commercial film.” Watch the review on YouTube - RUPAM'S REVIEW (Bengali) — Good Watch, 7/10
“Praises the lead's entry and courtroom performance, the music, and the cinematography, though it feels the mystery set up early on doesn't fully pay off. Bottom line: A complete, well-crafted commercial package worth catching in theatres.” Watch the review on YouTube - Entertaining Prince (Bengali) — Must Watch, 9/10
“Calls this the best Bengali commercial film in a decade, singling out a train heist sequence and rooftop chase as some of the best action ever shot in the industry, alongside praise for the writing and supporting performances. Bottom line: A must-watch that this reviewer says the industry needs to succeed.” Watch the review on YouTube - ARTISTIC SEVENTH SENSE (Bengali) — Must Watch, 9/10
“Calls it a genuine commercial masterpiece and the lead's best performance in over a decade, praising how the film humanizes its real-life-inspired hero rather than just showcasing star power. Bottom line: A rare Bengali blockbuster this reviewer urges audiences not to miss.” Watch the review on YouTube - Thrush Hour (Bengali) — Skip, 0/10
“A scathing takedown that calls the lead's performance flat and expressionless, slams the VFX and CGI as amateurish, and accuses the songs of being uncredited copies of classical and Western tracks. Rates it zero out of ten. Bottom line: A harshly negative dissent that argues this film should never have been made.” Watch the review on YouTube - Rajib Saha (Bengali) — Good Watch, 7/10
“Street reactions after the show are largely positive, with one moviegoer rating it 7 out of 10 and several viewers saying they now want to learn more about the real freedom fighter the story is based on. Bottom line: A crowd that left the theatre entertained and curious about the history behind it.” Watch the review on YouTube - Entertaining Prince (Bengali) — Must Watch, 9/10
“A second, equally enthusiastic take from the same reviewer praising the first-half action sequences and comparing the lead's stardom to top South Indian and Bollywood superstars. Bottom line: Another full-throated recommendation urging Bengali audiences to buy a ticket.” Watch the review on YouTube - ARTISTIC SEVENTH SENSE (Bengali) — Must Watch, 8.5/10
“A brief but enthusiastic follow-up calling it an extraordinary, first-half-to-second-half class film and holding it up as the kind of Bengali cinema the industry needs more of. Bottom line: A short, strongly positive endorsement from a reviewer who calls it a must-see.” Watch the review on YouTube - MFK TV (Bengali) — Must Watch, 8/10
“Praises the balanced screenplay mixing action, comedy and courtroom drama, calling the lead's performance one of the best of his career and the train action sequence a genuine technical achievement. Bottom line: A well-rounded, wholesome commercial entertainer that earns its praise.” Watch the review on YouTube - All in One by Digvijay Bonawate (Bengali) — Must Watch, 8/10
“A reviewer from outside Bengal who watched with subtitles calls it a fantastic, must-watch period drama, praising the background score, storytelling and character development. Rates it 4 out of 5. Bottom line: A film strong enough to win over viewers unfamiliar with the language or industry.” Watch the review on YouTube
