Suriya's cop drama arrived as a Diwali mass film and turned out to be a Malayalam-flavoured crime comedy, so the loudest debate is whether that is a bug or the whole point.

Story
Jithu Madhavan's Scene is a Tamil crime comedy-thriller starring Suriya as police officer Inbaraj, who must reopen a case he left unfinished years ago and solve it with a chaotic, troublesome team. Nazriya Nazim, Naslen, Anandraj and Lal star, with music by Sushin Shyam. It opened in cinemas on 6 November 2026 with a runtime of about 2 hours 29 minutes and a U/A certificate; Telugu, Malayalam and Russian versions are also out.
What works
- Suriya is called lively and in full flow after years, and the Suriya and Nazriya scenes are called cute (Aswanth Kok, Thi Cinemas, Thyview, Movie Matters)
- A Malayalam-style crime comedy, with eccentric characters and a light treatment of a serial-killer story, wins most reviewers (Aswanth Kok, Thyview, Gulte Pro, Man of Fiction)
- Naslen as the villain Eeswaran and the wider supporting cast, including Anandraj and Lal, earn praise (Varun Talks, Aswanth Kok, Movie Matters)
- Cinematography, production design and Sushin Shyam's music are singled out (tamilcinemareview, Thyview, Gulte Pro, Man of Fiction)
- The last 40 minutes, the second half and the climax lift the film (Secret Agent, Empty Hand, Poolachokka, Featu Gadi Media)
What doesn't
- A slow, long set-up: the first half drags for several reviewers, and one finds the post-interval love track lags (Empty Hand, Secret Agent, Poolachokka, Featu Gadi Media)
- The comedy does not always land, and the villain side is thinly shown (Empty Hand)
- Some find the dubbing and police-hero mannerisms uneven (tamilcinemareview, Secret Agent, Poolachokka, Man of Fiction)
- The score is called overrated or familiar by a few (tamilcinemareview, Poolachokka)
- Not the Suriya mass film the trailer suggested: one theatre response felt let down, and one reviewer warns commercial fans may be (POP Premiere, Featu Gadi Media)
What each reviewer said
- POP Premiere (Malayalam) — One-Time Watch, 6/10
“Theatre-goers talk to the camera at the interval: a serious investigation told in a fun mood, with a twist already in the first half and plenty of Malayalam actors and cameos. The first half did not fully land for them and they hope the second half delivers. Bottom line: cautious and not yet convinced, a theatre-response video recorded before the film ended.” Watch the review on YouTube - Aswanth Kok (Malayalam) — Good Watch, 8/10
“A fresh serial-killer story with no complicated twists, set around the Munnar border, where the Tamil-Malayalam mix feels natural. Suriya is in full lively mode after years, Naslen's character gets more space in the second half, and the length is comfortable. Bottom line: called pure entertainment.” Watch the review on YouTube - Thi Cinemas (Tamil) — Good Watch, 8/10
“First-day audience reactions: they call it an entertainer with real action and comedy, a slow-burning build-up that takes off in the second half, no dedicated songs, and Suriya in a different, underplayed kind of role. Bottom line: most of those interviewed call it a very good Diwali entertainer.” Watch the review on YouTube - POP Premiere (Malayalam) — One-Time Watch, 5/10
“A disappointed theatre response: the first half is crime comedy, the second half was not what he expected, and the film does not match its trailer. He liked Naslen's role and says the climax is not bad. Bottom line: not worth the hype for him, with the audio unclear in places.” Watch the review on YouTube - Simple Logic Media (Malayalam) — Good Watch, 8/10
“Kerala theatre-goers speaking after the first half: lots of comedy, suspense and a twist already, apt characters and good direction, with Suriya's performance praised. Bottom line: very happy so far, though the second half was still to come.” Watch the review on YouTube - Secret Agent (Tamil) — Good Watch, 7/10
“A balanced take: the first half drags a little, then the second half gives a kick and a thrill. He enjoys the Malayalam-style feel but finds some police-hero mannerisms a bit over the top. Bottom line: a good piece of work that has to be seen with patience.” Watch the review on YouTube - Varun Talks (Tamil) — Good Watch, 8/10
“Walks through the story of a police officer who can solve any case and praises the whole cast, including Anandraj, Lal and Naslen's villain, plus the small details in the writing. Bottom line: enjoyable if you go in without big expectations.” Watch the review on YouTube - Poolachokka (Telugu) — Good Watch, 6.7/10
“A crime-comedy that is classy, massy and commercial in turn, with a very good last 40 minutes. The set-up is long, Naslen has less screen time than fans expect, the Telugu dubbing of two leads is uneven and the score echoes other films. Bottom line: 3.33 out of 5 tomatoes, one to see for fans of unusual films.” Watch the review on YouTube - tamilcinemareview (Tamil) — Good Watch, 8.5/10
“Calls it a brilliant experiment: the colour grading and cinematography are superb, Suriya's look is fresh and Suriya and Nazriya work well together. Parts of the Tamil dubbing don't work and the music is a little overrated. Bottom line: go with an open mind.” Watch the review on YouTube - Empty Hand (Tamil) — One-Time Watch, 6/10
“Calls it a decent film that lags in the first half, with comedy that doesn't work and a villain side that is under-shown, though the second half improves. Bottom line: lower your expectations and it works as a family watch.” Watch the review on YouTube - Thyview (Telugu) — Must Watch, 9/10
“A non-spoiler review that calls it a cool, breezy entertainer: a serious crime story told in a light way, with Suriya surrendering to the director, Nazriya well cast and Naslen cold and restrained. Production design, cinematography and Sushin Shyam's music stand out. It starts unevenly and takes about 15 minutes to settle. Bottom line: "a cracker of an entertainer".” Watch the review on YouTube - Mahidhar Vibes (Telugu) — Good Watch, 8.4/10
“Praises the way the film opens its central door and the execution that follows, with good songs and strong background music. The story itself is not new. Bottom line: 4.2 out of 5.” Watch the review on YouTube - Movie Matters (Telugu) — Must Watch, 9/10
“Enjoyed it as perfect entertainment, mixing action, comedy and thriller, with every side character given a quirk. He likens its flavour to Doctor, praises Naslen's presence and the cat-and-mouse scenes with Suriya, and the background music. Bottom line: "don't miss it".” Watch the review on YouTube - Gulte Pro (Telugu) — Must Watch, 9/10
“Calls it one of the most creative and entertaining commercial films in a long time: a dark script told with fun, where the audience knows the killer and the thrill comes from the writing. The theme is accepting one's limitations, the music and the plane song work, and a few characters are a little hyper. Bottom line: a very good experience.” Watch the review on YouTube - SRR TV (Telugu) — Must Watch, 9/10
“A short audience reaction from one fan: "superb" direction, Suriya and story, with a hit feel and a mass high in the investigation. Bottom line: full marks, though this is a single viewer's quick reaction.” Watch the review on YouTube - Man Of Fiction (Telugu) — Must Watch, 9.5/10
“Calls it his best film of 2026 so far: the intensity, the comic gag with Lal, the surprise cameos, the climax and Sushin Shyam's music all worked for him, though the Telugu dubbing is a bit weak. Bottom line: a film he wants to see more of from every star.” Watch the review on YouTube - FEATU GADI MEDIA (Telugu) — Good Watch, 6.5/10
“A different crime thriller rather than a regular star film: a fun first 20 minutes, a lagging love track for 20-25 minutes after the interval, and a very engaging last 40 minutes. The story is not new and commercial fans may be let down. Bottom line: 3.25 out of 5, worth trying if you like different screenplays.” Watch the review on YouTube
