Jailer 2 review: 7/10, Must Watch

Tamil · Kollywood · Released 15 Oct 2026

ReviewHub score: 7/10 · Verdict: Must Watch — based on 13 YouTube reviews (10 positive, 2 mixed, 1 negative).

At 75, Rajinikanth barely has to throw a punch: most reviewers say the slow-motion swag, cameos and a killer first half carry it, even when the second half runs out of ideas.

Story

Jailer 2 follows retired jailer Tiger Muthuvel Pandian (Rajinikanth) as a new threat from the criminal underworld shatters his peaceful life, forcing him to return to his ruthless ways to protect his family and legacy.

What works

  • A first half widely praised as fun and thrilling, with a standout interval block (Yogi Bolta Hai, Suraj Kumar, BnfTV, Poolachokka)
  • Cameos that land, including Hrithik Roshan, Mohanlal and Shiva Rajkumar, cheered by almost every reviewer
  • Rajinikanth's swag and realistic, age-aware action presentation at 75 (5ocial, Mahidhar Vibes)
  • Anirudh's background score and Nelson's dark comedy, with new comic characters that work

What doesn't

  • Second half is weaker: a family-kidnap stretch and abrupt villain switch feel predictable (Poolachokka, PJ Explained, BnfTV)
  • S. J. Suryah's villain feels repetitive and under-written to several reviewers
  • Weak VFX and green-screen work for the budget (Poolachokka, tamilcinemareview)
  • Barbell and PJ Explained find it formulaic and less fresh than part one; songs are a step down

What each reviewer said

  • Barbell Pitch Meetings (Telugu) — Skip, 3/10
“Mocks a simple hero-kills-villain plot stretched over nearly three hours with endless build-up, slow-motion walks, brainless setups like birthday-party explosions and repetitive family-kidnap beats, and finds S. J. Suryah's mannerisms tiresome. Only a new comic character in the first half works. Bottom line: worse than part one; the reviewer did not like it.” Watch the review on YouTube
  • YOGI BOLTA HAI (Hindi) — Must Watch, 8/10
“Watched in Hindi and calls the first half an outstanding mix of drama, suspense, action and comedy, capped by a terrific interval block. The second half is a little weaker, but strong cameos, Anirudh's BGM and Nelson's dark humour keep it engaging. Bottom line: a proper pan-India mass entertainer, rated 4 out of 5.” Watch the review on YouTube
  • Filmi Indian (Hindi) — Must Watch, 8/10
“Says this sequel goes full mass masala, with multiple layered villains, unpredictable turns and cameos that all fit the story, plus a fun Mohanlal appearance. The music is a step below part one and some actors feel typecast. Bottom line: strong action and villain-building for a theatre experience, rated 4 out of 5.” Watch the review on YouTube
  • Poolachokka (Telugu) — One-Time Watch, 6/10
“Enjoys a first half full of peaks, comedy and a Breaking Bad-inspired flavour, with Suraj, Vidya Balan and a scene-stealing cameo standing out, but finds the second half's kidnap-the-family portion boring and predictable, S. J. Suryah's villain forgettable and the VFX weak. Bottom line: a decent-to-okay sequel, rated 2.77 out of 4.51 tomatoes.” Watch the review on YouTube
  • BnfTV (Hindi) — Good Watch, 7.5/10
“Loved a genuinely fun first half where Nelson's dark comedy and Rajinikanth's slow-burn reveals had the theatre laughing and cheering, then felt the second half rushed its big villains into a messy cat-and-mouse. A heavy emotional scene and the returning cameos win it back. Bottom line: not a clean home run, but a solid go.” Watch the review on YouTube
  • tamilcinemareview (Tamil) — Good Watch, 7/10
“Praises Nelson for letting Rajinikanth underplay the first half, comedy from Suraj and Yogi Babu that lands, and cameos that earn goosebumps, while noting S. J. Suryah's mannerisms feel saturated and the VFX is below par for the budget. The reviewer openly thanks Rajinikanth for past personal help. Bottom line: a heartfelt, clean entertainer.” Watch the review on YouTube
  • Suraj Kumar (Hindi) — Must Watch, 8/10
“Calls the first half 'five-star perfection' with three interval-worthy sequences, sharp writing, Anirudh's merged BGM and cameos, especially Hrithik Roshan, that bring the theatre down; only the second half dips a little. He regrets the weak Hindi release. Bottom line: the craziest, most entertaining film of the year for him, 4 out of 5.” Watch the review on YouTube
  • PJ Explained (Hindi) — One-Time Watch, 6/10
“Enjoyed the badass aura-farming moments and Hrithik Roshan's entry, but says the iconic freshness of part one is missing: action and emotion reuse the same template, comedy is hit and miss in the Hindi dub and the second half switches villains so abruptly it feels like a different film. Bottom line: a fine time-pass, not a great sequel.” Watch the review on YouTube
  • Mahidhar Vibes (Telugu) — Good Watch, 7/10
“Calls it a decent commercial film on a familiar template, lifted by well-written high moments, slow-motion action and Anirudh's dependable BGM; Rajinikanth's screen presence is the real highlight and the film holds up on par with part one. Bottom line: a proper Jailer-style commercial movie, rated 3.6 out of 5.” Watch the review on YouTube
  • iDream Media (Telugu) — Good Watch, 7/10
“VSN Murthy admits there is little story or logic, and the villain is weak, but says Nelson keeps entertaining through comic side characters, a strong interval and well-timed elevation moments where Rajinikanth barely needs to fight. Family sentiment in the extended climax may divide viewers. Bottom line: a well-knit mass commercial film and a success.” Watch the review on YouTube
  • 5ocial (Hindi) — Good Watch, 7/10
“Admires how Nelson presents a 75-year-old Rajinikanth as an action hero without fake abs or jumps, letting direction, cinematography and Anirudh's BGM carry the mass moments, with fun cameos across industries. Not one for OTT viewing. Bottom line: like junk food you enjoy once in a while, the purest form of Rajinikanth cinema.” Watch the review on YouTube
  • Shruti TV (Tamil) — Must Watch, 8/10
“A first-day Tamil audience public review: fans call the film 'another level', praise Anirudh's music, S. J. Suryah and Vidya Balan, enjoy a fast first half and a satisfying finish, and predict huge collections. Some feel a little sentiment in the second half. Bottom line: early fans call it a surprise hit; audience reaction, not a critic.” Watch the review on YouTube
  • Telugu Filmnagar (Telugu) — Must Watch, 9/10
“An audience public talk at Prasads in Hyderabad: fans say it beats part one, praise comedy in the first half, Rajinikanth's swag at 75, Anirudh's BGM and the cameos, and one viewer gives it 4.5 out of 5. Bottom line: first-day fans call it a blockbuster; this is audience reaction, not a critic's review.” Watch the review on YouTube
