Sigma review: 7/10, Must Watch

Tamil · Kollywood · Released 02 Oct 2026

ReviewHub score: 7/10 · Verdict: Must Watch — based on 4 YouTube reviews (3 positive, 1 mixed, 0 negative).

A director smart enough to connect a dozen moving plot threads - and not quite smart enough to keep his own big twist from the audience.

Story

Sigma marks the feature directorial debut of Jason Sanjay (son of Tamil Nadu Chief Minister and actor Vijay), starring Sundeep Kishan in his first Tamil-language lead role alongside Faria Abdullah, Sampath Raj and Raju Sundaram. The story follows a man trying to reclaim his mother's library from crippling debt, who gets pulled into a smuggler-gambler's hidden fortune after a stolen locker key falls into his hands. Music is by Thaman S, produced by Lyca Productions. Released in Tamil and Telugu on 02 Oct 2026.

What works

  • Sundeep Kishan's performance in his first Tamil lead role draws consistent praise, with more than one reviewer calling it some of his best work in years
  • Jason Sanjay's handling of a genuinely complex, multi-character plot - gambling, smuggling, and overlapping character arcs all connecting at the end - is repeatedly credited as a strong, well-researched directorial debut
  • The climax and final 40 minutes are singled out as the film's strongest stretch across multiple reviews
  • Supporting performances - particularly Raju Sundaram's comic doctor character and Sampath Raj's villain - get specific individual praise

What doesn't

  • More than one reviewer flags a real screenplay flaw: the film's central twist is revealed to the audience before the characters themselves discover it, undercutting suspense
  • Pacing and editing draw real criticism, with reviewers saying the film runs long and needed tighter cutting, especially its slow build-up before the interval
  • The heroine's track is repeatedly singled out as underwritten, with one reviewer calling it the film's biggest 'speed breaker'
  • Reviewers note the smuggling-gangster template closely echoes established Tamil hits like Mankatha and Kannum Kannum Kollaiyadithaal, without a clear point of original distinction

What each reviewer said

  • Varun Talks (Tamil) — One-Time Watch, 6/10
“A detailed, analytical review praising Jason Sanjay's shot-making and storytelling instincts for a first-time feature director, but flagging a real structural flaw - the audience figures out the twist before the characters do - plus pacing that needed sharper editing and a 'useless' underwritten heroine track. Notes the theatre crowd stayed noticeably quiet through scenes clearly written for laughs. Bottom line: a promising directorial debut let down by an overlong, over-explained screenplay.” Watch the review on YouTube
  • Rednool (Tamil) — Good Watch, 7.5/10
“Praises Jason Sanjay's writing and direction as the film's biggest strength, crediting him for connecting a genuinely complex web of gambling, smuggling and overlapping character arcs into one coherent story, and calls the film technically strong across cinematography, editing and music. Does note the background score 'isn't delivered perfectly' despite Thaman's name on it. Bottom line: a very good movie, go watch it in the theatre.” Watch the review on YouTube
  • Recent Voice (Tamil) — Good Watch, 7/10
“Praises the level of real research behind the film's smuggling-and-gambling plot mechanics and Sundeep Kishan's acting, while openly acknowledging the story shares 'soil' with established hits like Mankatha and Kannum Kannum Kollaiyadithaal. Bottom line: 'there is no doubt about it - this is a win for both Sigma and Jason Sanjay.'” Watch the review on YouTube
  • Annamalai Yaan (Tamil) — Good Watch, 7.5/10
“A fast, enthusiastic take calling the screenplay and story the best part of the film, with the final 40 minutes singled out as genuinely shocking and the second half called 'awesome' throughout. Bottom line: 'a must watch' - the lags that exist aren't bad enough to matter.” Watch the review on YouTube
